In Their Own Words

NF

Nurul Farah Izzati

Wangsa Maju, KL

"I attended the Group Programme in March and I found it genuinely useful. I had always skimmed my statement without really knowing what I was looking at. The sessions walked through each section at a sensible pace and the facilitator was good at answering questions without making you feel embarrassed for asking."

"The two-evening workshop was the right length for me. I didn't want a long commitment — I just wanted to understand what certain terms on my statement actually meant. It was clearly educational and nothing else. Would go back for the six-week option when my schedule allows."

Siti Rohani Binti Azman

Ampang, KL

"I enrolled in the Year-Long Track because I wanted something gradual. The monthly sessions fit well around work and the quarterly assignments were short enough to manage. What I appreciated most was that nobody in the room was trying to sell anything — it was just a reading programme, which is exactly what I needed."

"The printed glossary from the workshop is still on my desk. I find myself referring back to it when I receive paperwork that uses the same terminology. The venue is convenient from KL Sentral and the evening timing worked well."

"I brought my husband to the two-evening workshop and we both found it worthwhile. The facilitator was patient and didn't assume prior knowledge. My one observation is that the sample documents could include a slightly wider variety, but that didn't take away from the learning."

"I've been attending the Year-Long Track for seven months now. The monthly format is good for someone who finds it hard to block out several consecutive evenings. The annual companion booklet has become something I actually sit down with on weekends."

How Participants Used What They Learned

PP

Priya d/o Palanisamy

Petaling Jaya — Vocabulary Workshop, January 2025

The Situation

Priya had recently received her first statement and found the layout confusing. She couldn't identify which figures related to which charges and was uncertain about what several column headings referred to.

What She Did

She attended the two-evening Vocabulary Workshop, working through sample documents with the facilitator. The session on statement layout and column terminology was particularly useful for her situation.

After the Programme

Priya was able to read through her next statement independently and identify the key sections. She has since recommended the workshop to two colleagues who described similar experiences.

"The second session where we went through a full statement line by line made things click. I hadn't realised how logical the layout actually is once you know what each column is for."

ZR

Zainudin bin Rashid

Shah Alam — Group Programme, October–November 2024

The Situation

Zainudin had held the same account for several years but admitted he only checked the total due figure on his statement. He wanted a better understanding of the other sections before making any changes to his arrangement.

What He Did

He joined the six-week Group Programme. By week three, he was reading the full statement rather than just the summary section. The forum was useful for questions that came up between sessions.

After the Programme

Zainudin now reads his statement in full each month and says he feels more confident when speaking with his bank about his account, because he understands the language both sides are using.

"I used to feel vaguely stressed every time a statement arrived. Not because anything was wrong — just because I didn't fully understand it. That has changed."
